Back to the clinic

Cindy went for some tests today at the Taussig Center. We were there most of the day and late in the afternoon she started to run a fever(101) so they re-admitted her. She wasn't very happy, but this is what is best for her and I think she now realizes that. They did a blood culture and we will get the results tomorrow. It could be graft vs. host whhich is fairly common. And they may have to give her some steroids.

A little bit of GVHD is a very good thing. If the doctors can keep it under control and mostly just in the skin, it's what you want. It sucks but it's a good thing in the long run. It means your new cells are still out there fighting any leftover leukemia that the chemo didn't finish off. Just take it easy. The thing you're in is a marathon not a 5k. You're gonna have ups and downs. Just keep the course, stay focused and you'll be alright.

It's the people that never experience GVHD that I worry about. Your gonna run into suprises like this in the next couple months. It's OK. It's part of the fight. Just take it in stide. You know the goal. You'll get there. It just might take a little more time than you like. You're new life-saving cells are more scared than you are. How would you like to wake up in a new house and not be able to get out? It's going to take some time for everyone to get along.

    Take care - Steve Wicker

    Cindy & Kyle,

One step forward and two steps back. Ed often said that after his open heart. You will get there just may take a little longer.

To Steve Wicker, I do not know you but what a courageous, inspiring man you are. Your advice to Cindy will surely help her get through this path that God has chosen for her to take. Thank you and God Bless You too.

Cindy, I saw your Mom last night. Ed & I had fun with Marcie at the Elk's - got our once a week red meat fix. I gave Marcie $5.00 to buy me tickets hoping she would bring me some LUCK - DID NOT WORK!!

Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers everyday.

    Love & prayers,
    Ed & Cindy

    Hi Cindy & Kyle,
Like Steve said GVHD is a good thing. You want to have some. Kyle, I know how you feel too. It isn't easy to see your loved one going through all the stages. Many times I asked God why Steve and not me. But I know I could never had withstood all he went through. I think of you all the time and keep praying for you two. Just remember one day at a time.

    Take care, Ginny Wicker-Piddock

P.S. If anyone out there wants to talk to me about BMT, please call me. I'm not a doctor but maybe I could help after my experience with my son, Steve

Hi Mrs. Roth, I was dated jessie when I worked at Cedar Point many years ago. I happened across jessie's bloger page and saw that you are a survivor against Leukemia. My father battled cancer 3 times within the past seven years and thank god he came out the winner through love, medicine, and prayers. I just wanted you to know that I am praying for you as well as my parents whom I told about your situation. You have a wonderful family and have a lot to be proud of . Take care and god bless.

    Hi Bella!
What an awesome gift you and Kyle have with Steve Wicker. I'm sure he will be there for both of you whenever you get upset or worried. He's three years down the road from this and look how he's reaching out to you. Draw on his strength and experience because the rest of us don't really know all that you are going through. Just as Steve is here for you now, one day, you be also be able to reassure another family that gets hit with this miserable disease. Take a big breath in Cindy, slow down and ride this through. Don't be in a hurry. The goal isn't a certain date to be out of there---the goal is to just get home. Slowly kiddo, just let your body do its thing. YES I CAN!

As always, thinking and praying for you. It was really nice to read Steve's note. It helped explain to us "lay" people and to reassure us that things are still on track. Thanks Steve! Kyle, I know you have to be going crazy, but the two of you are on the home stretch. Hang in there. We love you both.
    Love,
    Mark and Jan
